Most of the interurban parts of the city are accessible on foot, by free trolley, or by light rail. If you are on foot, keep an eye out for Fountain Place (pictured below). It is next door to the Fairmont and visible from almost every point in the city. Head towards it and eventually you will make it back!
![]() Tunnel System
Dallas has plenty of things to do at ground level, but downtown also sports an extensive, lesser known system of tunnels and skyways with restaurants, shops, and businesses of all types. This is a nice way to get around when the weather is not at its best. Note that most of the tunnels are closed at night, and various areas may close at different times, depending on the access hours of the buildings above. Bus and Light Rail
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) services the entire Dallas area by bus and light rail. Visit their site for detailed schedules, maps, and fare information. The nearest DART light rail stop to the Fairmont--Dallas is the Akard St. Station. The Red, Blue, and Green lines stop there at regular intervals. Busses pick up and drop off at many places near the hotel.
McKinney Avenue Transit Authority (MATA; M-Line Trolley)
The M-Line Trolley is a set of historic street cars connecting Uptown and Downtown. Everyone rides free of charge, and the conductors often give anecdotal commentary on the sights as you travel. The Downtown end of the line picks up 1 block East of the hotel at the corner of Ross and St. Paul St. The trolley stops by request along the main thoroughfare of Uptown Dallas, and all Uptown restaurants are no more than 3 blocks from the tracks.
